Show Your Strength

When Brook Peters set out to make his film about living through 9/11 as a child, he didn’t realize THE SECOND DAY would convey a universal story of inner strength and resilience that could inspire people around the world. In response to Brook’s Show Your Strength Campaign, over 150 young people submitted their personal stories of courage and hope. And the band Simple Plan supported the campaign by offering their song “What If”.

Watch the music video below to see how others face life’s challenges, and share the video to inspire people you know. Play it forward by sharing your story.

Award-winning Canadian rock band Simple Plan supported the Show Your Strength Campaign to inspire youth across the globe. “I approached Simple Plan to use the song What If  as the soundtrack to the Show Your Strength video because I feel it makes listeners question what they can do to change themselves and, in turn, help to change the world,” said Brook Peters.

This is such a beautiful, bold picture. I love the creativity of it and the powerful message behind it. Those who died on 9/11 trying to save others fearlessly loved, but now today WE must love others fearlessly, even our enemies, so that we may attain freedom.

This is my tattoo. I like this quote because in the past and even now I’ve struggled with depression. I’ve had a lot go in my life that I felt like you know, am I even going to make it? Extreme bullying, family issues, bad boyfriends, body/eating issues, self issues. And remembering this quote motivates me and makes me feel like, yes, I can do it, I will destroy that evil. Destroy what is destroying me. It’s so important to me to remember, and I think the harshness of the word ‘destroy’ and the meaning of the quote just makes an impact.

During my years of high school I was made fun of a lot for being in a wheelchair. I was called names like “wheeled freak”, “Transformer”, even telling me that the only way I would get anywhere would be because people felt sorry for me and the list goes on. My wheelchair became my Identity. I had accepted the role of the victim and that was just how the world was. One day I was listening to the radio and a song called “shut up” by simple plan played and I realized that I needed to stop feeling sorry for myself and do something. I discovered I could draw and sing and used those as a way to let my frustrations out. I would do them in public and pretty soon I became known for what I could do rather than what I couldn’t. I have been confidant since and truly believe that there isn’t anything I couldn’t do if I wanted.
I now go to an art school studying graphics design.
I feel sorry for those who look at a wheelchair and automatically think handicap because they are the ones who are handicapped.
So to anyone who has a disability, own it! just because other people may have the ability to do something you can’t doesn’t mean you don’t have the ability to do something extraordinary that they can’t. Don’t let it define you!

9/11 is very sorrowful day for United States. We take the time to remember those who lost their lives in the tragic moment. We mourn with families and hope they recover from their losses. ‘Recovery Takes Courage’ is the message we send to families this year and wish that they become full of courage to recover.

Today we wrote these words upon our arms in remembrance of 9/11 victims. A lady once told us that people say to remember the loved ones they lost, but we believe to heal you have to move on. We aren’t saying one has to completely forget but we are saying one needs not to mourn everyday…RIP patriots of America.<3
