Show Your Strength

When Brook Peters set out to make his film about living through 9/11 as a child, he didn’t realize THE SECOND DAY would convey a universal story of inner strength and resilience that could inspire people around the world. In response to Brook’s Show Your Strength Campaign, over 150 young people submitted their personal stories of courage and hope. And the band Simple Plan supported the campaign by offering their song “What If”.

Watch the music video below to see how others face life’s challenges, and share the video to inspire people you know. Play it forward by sharing your story.

Award-winning Canadian rock band Simple Plan supported the Show Your Strength Campaign to inspire youth across the globe. “I approached Simple Plan to use the song What If  as the soundtrack to the Show Your Strength video because I feel it makes listeners question what they can do to change themselves and, in turn, help to change the world,” said Brook Peters.

HOW TO SHARE YOUR STORY:
Though the music video is completed, we continue to encourage you to share your story or message of inner strength below to inspire others who will view it here.

“Optimism That Things Do Get Better”
I chose this because, I know what its like to have nothing… But what kept me going was having optimism that things will get better. Because I kept that optimism with me, things did eventually get better. And I was more grateful for what I had and kept my head up through all the bad, and it made me a stronger person. So remember things do get better :)

Sometimes things fall apart so better things can fall together. I chose this quote because I recently overcame some obstacles. When I was being tested for Lupus, I felt helpless and scared. On top of it all, I had my heartbroken which, to a teenager, feels like your world is crashing down. Then, things turned around for the better. The results were negative for lupus and I met someone new who could make me smile. By fighting through these obstacles, I grew stronger and got to experience new things falling together.

Brook came to Montclair State University and talked to us about his documentary. I stayed and talked to him after class and was so inspired by his story. I think what he has done is amazing and I wish him the best of luck in the future! I chose this quote because I think that once people learn to overcome the obstacles in their life they will be able to live life to the fullest. I personally learned to live with ADD and I no longer allow it to define who I am.

For years I struggled with being ok with myself and accepting who i was, until 2 years ago. Then this past year I was diagnosed with pre-leukemia and needed a stem cell transplant. I knew i was going to look very different than i did before, but after going through everything i went through and losing all my hair and the chemo turning my skin darker then peeling. I have more confidence in myself than i ever did. I realized that now im being more myself since i have nothing to hide me. Simple Plan helped me realize being myself is ok and not to let other peoples opinions bother me. i just wish i saw them at warped tour this summer, but i had my transplant two days before.

dare to dream, this saying means alot to me,so much that im getting it tattooed on my wrist. i stumbled across it whilst trying to sort out my life. they helped inspire me when nothing seemed to be going right, and when there was no one and no where to turn. i would just sit in my room dreaming my life away. pushing myself to try to succeed when i failed at so much, to the point i was named a failure. countless hours spent dreaming gave me purpose to be. by daring to dream i have managed to succeed in something i never thought possible. i am starting to live again

I had a tough childhood because of my father. He did some things a father shouldn’t do to his family and children. But I kept fighting again him and all I felt when I was with him. Now, I’m doing ok and I stronger than yesterday.
Then, all I can say is : Keep believing. Never give up.
The fight ends only when YOU win.

    Greetings from France :)

P.S. : Thanks for this project. That’s amazing and brilliant. It feels good to know that people all around the world can support each other. Thank you.
